Ben Masel

American activist (1954–2011)

Bennett A. "Ben" Masel was a multifaceted American figure, active in various fields from 1954 until his passing in 2011. As a writer and publisher, he contributed to the literary landscape, while also being a vocal advocate for cannabis rights and free speech. His expertise in the field of marijuana led to him serving as an expert witness for defendants in related cases.

Masel's activism extended to his involvement in organizational roles, including directing Wisconsin NORML. He was also a key figure behind notable events such as Weedstock and the annual Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival. The latter, held in front of the Wisconsin State Capitol, has been a recurring autumn event since 1971, demonstrating his lasting impact on the community. Additionally, Masel was a skilled chess player and frequently sought public office, further highlighting his diverse range of interests and pursuits.
