Georg Solti
унгарско-британски диригент
Georg Solti was a renowned Hungarian-British conductor, born in Budapest in 1912. He pursued his musical education in his hometown, studying under the guidance of prominent figures such as Béla Bartók, Leó Weiner, and Ernő Dohnányi. Solti's early career included positions as a répétiteur at the Hungarian State Opera and an assistant at the Salzburg Festival, where he worked alongside the esteemed conductor Arturo Toscanini.
Solti's rise to prominence was temporarily halted by the Nazi influence on Hungarian politics, which led to his departure from the country in 1938 due to the increasingly stringent anti-Jewish laws. He subsequently conducted a season of Russian ballet at the Royal Opera House in London before seeking refuge in Switzerland, where he remained throughout the Second World War. During this period, he was unable to pursue his career as a conductor and instead earned a living as a pianist. Solti would go on to become a celebrated figure in the world of music, known for his work with prominent opera companies and his long tenure as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He passed away in 1997, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most distinguished conductors of his time.
