Zygmunt Bauman
полски социолог
Zygmunt Bauman was a prominent Polish-British sociologist and philosopher, born in 1925. His life took a significant turn during the 1968 Polish political crisis, which led to his expulsion from the Polish People's Republic and the subsequent relinquishment of his Polish citizenship. This event prompted his emigration to Israel, where he stayed for three years before relocating to the United Kingdom.
Bauman settled in England in 1971 and pursued further studies at the London School of Economics. He went on to become a distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of Leeds, a position he held until he became emeritus. As a social theorist, Bauman's writings encompassed a wide range of topics, including the complexities of modernity, the Holocaust, consumerism in the context of postmodernity, and the concept of liquid modernity. His work had a profound impact on the field of sociology and philosophy, earning him recognition as a leading thinker of his time, until his passing in 2017.
