Henry Isaacs
Henry Isaacs was a London-born general merchant who played a significant role in Auckland, New Zealand's commercial scene from 1850 to 1875. Alongside his brother Edward, he was a key figure in the firm E. and H. Isaacs, which had a notable presence in the region. Although his brother Edward had initially established a base for the firm in Melbourne in 1842, he later joined Henry in Auckland in 1865.
Together, the Isaacs brothers operated a troop provisioning business in central Auckland, capitalizing on the economic opportunities presented by the invasion of the Waikato. This venture was part of a long-standing tradition of providing supplies to the military, a business that could be highly profitable at times. Through their firm, Henry Isaacs contributed to the commercial activities in Auckland during a period of significant historical events in New Zealand.
